As Flowey explains, he couldn’t reset or save anymore once Frisk fell down, Frisk “saved over” Flowey because Frisk has more determination, more desire to live and thus overrides him. RESET is strongly discouraged by both XGaster and Classic!Sans, the former disgusted to see his changes made with his OVERWRITE button undone and the latter fearing that the RESET could further provide damage to his already corrupted timeline.Frisk couldn’t reset if they wanted to, just like with Photoshop Flowey, he wouldn’t have enough determination. This was shown in timeline nine when X-Event!Frisk, ridden with guilt and despair, resets and ends up changing time and space altogether, causing characters like XAlphys to deage and the universe to be set in the Underground before the barrier is destroyed. On rare occasion, should the user RESET without setting up a certain point, the button has the chance to change the space-time continuum. Even so, having control of the RESET button is less interesting than that of OVERWRITE, as demonstrated when XGaster had control over the button during timeline VII. Because it revert to a portion of a timeline as to prevent something from happening, it creates a separate alternate timeline, something that XGaster strongly dislikes. The RESET button does have various issues, though. The button is not limited to the realms of the XTALE universe either, as every universe and timeline has a version of the RESET button, as shown with Classic!Frisk.
This is the counterpart to the OVERWRITE button, where as the OVERWRITE makes changes to the timeline, RESET reverts those changes entirely. It works with the tap of a button, forcing any changes made to a timeline to become null. RESET is a tool designed to reset portions of a timeline. ~ One of XGaster's entry in timeline IV on his witness of the RESET function. FINALLY, I HAVE WITNESSED THE ABILITY KNOWN AS RESET.
